Water for life:

Hydrogen bond:

Hydrogen bonding in water
Hydrogen bond in water

Causes ice to be crystallineequally spaced out and less dense than water
High cohesion(thing-thing attraction) meaning high surface tension Highest for non-metallic liquid
Minimise surface area due to high cohesion

Capillary action:

Water has strong adhesionThing-other thing attraction with glass, than with itself so it will "stick" to glass because of adhesion and other water will come as well due to cohesion

Solvent:

More substances can dissolve in water than any other liquid.
Things that dissolve in water are called hydrophilic.
Hydrophilic things are polar and will hydrogen bond with water instead of each other. They do that by breaking cohesive force of water.

Hydrophobic:

Cannot break water cohesive forces.
Do not dissolve, "pushed out by water"
Unable to penetrate water.

Cavendish discovered the composition of water

High heat capacity, causes regulation of temperature and makes you cooler by sweating
